Stony Brook University Hospital
Most people wouldn’t consider a trip to the hospital a good vacation, but that’s not the case with the Stony Brook University Hospital. This building is a true architectural wonder and one of the area’s most well-noted landmarks. Built by noted Chicago architect Bertrand Goldberg in the late 70s, the buildings in the area are more than an impressive 334 feet tall and have a dominating presence over the skyline. It is a true spectacle to see and you do surely don’t want to miss it.
The Big Duck
This landmark is literally what the name says. Who would think that a concrete building of a big duck would have such a historical significance for the area? It does and it is an impressive one. The Big Duck is a gigantic duck that sneaks right up on you. Coming across Route 24 in Flanders, the Duck, although immense in size, will just pop right up in your view out of nowhere. This landmark has such a presence in the area that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and now serves as a tourist center and cozy little gift shop.
The Windmills Of East Hampton
This one offers a nostalgic feel to those long summers that you used to spend with your grandmother, aunt, or a similar relative. The three picturesque windmills of East Hampton are the perfect representation of the oldest American craftsmanship of the Wooden Age. They certainly offer a trip back into the past, and the best part is, you won’t just get to gawk. You’ll actually get to get involved when you take a tour of Hook Mill, Pantigo Mill, and Gardiners Mill. The only thing is that you need to make an appointment ahead of time, given how busy the attraction is.
